Barcamp Portland 7: Video Games and a Mini Maker Expo

Last year, Pixel Arts and the Portland Indie Game Squad co-produced a video game showcase and crowdfunding jam at Barcamp Portland.  This year we’re expanding the scope and reach to embed games in a larger ecosystem of maker communities and project related to digital interactivity.  A call for participation can be found at the Barcamp Portland website.

Overview

Our goal is to provide a hands-on space to showcase creative work by our talented makers and communities throughout Portland. The mini-expo offers groups a chance to share their work, collaborations and passions with new people. What kinds of projects submissions are we inviting? Anything that promotes hands on engagement and interaction including but not limited to:

  • Video games
  • Digital or static immersion displays
  • Audio, light and visual interactivity technologies
  • DIY hardware hacks, micro-controllers, Arduino, Raspberry PI
  • Digital puppetry, robotics, micro-machines and rotorcraft

BarCamp 6 Invitation: Prototype your Game or Local Project for Crowd-Source Funding

March 30th, 6:30-9pm, Eliot Center, Portland, OR

During BarCamp’s socializing on Friday night, we are hosting a showcase on the power of crowd-funding for indie entrepreneurs.

To do that, we are playing a game around KickStarter projects using stickers and a mark-up system for comments.  We are looking for at least 10 game related or locally based projects to be part of the event.

The goal of our game is to find the “best practices for crowd-source funding” and help indie developers prototype their projects.  We will also facilitate a discussion on crowd-funding platforms and best practices.  Each participant receives a set of free stickers, and people can obtain more stickers by contributing money to the initial pot ($200).

Please let us know if you’d like to contribute or play by contacting Jeffrey.sens@gmail.com.
